Dhaka University

Before Dhaka University was established, close to its grounds were the previous buildings of Dhaka school. In 1873 the school was settled to Bahadur Shah of Iran Park. Later it shifted to Curzon Hall, which might become the primary institute of the university.

The institution of the university was a compensation of the annulment of the 1905 Partition of geographical region. The partition had established East geographical region and province as a separate province, with Dhaka as its capital. However, the partition was abolished in 1911 thanks to severe opposition from Indian National Congress and Bengali Hindus.To appease the folks of East geographical region, Lord Curzon declared that a university as a middle of excellence would be established in Dhaka. Khwaja Salimullah, the nabob of Dhaka, conjointly compete a pioneering role in establishing a university in Dhaka.

In 1913, opinion was invited before the university theme was given its final form. The secretary of state approved it in Gregorian calendar month 1913.The first vice-chancellor of the university, Dr. Prince Philip Joseph Hartog, erstwhile educational registrar of the University of London for seventeen years was appointed.

Established in 1921 beneath the Dhaka University Act 1920 of the Indian general assembly, it's modelled once British universities. Honorable Chancellor Lord Ronaldshay was the Governor of geographical region between 1917 and 1922. He selected Nawaab Syed Shamsul Huda as a life member. On his recommendation, Lord Ronaldshay selected Sir Ahmad Fazlur Rahman as a academic administrator, earlier he was in Aligarh Muslim University.educational activities started on July 1, 1921 with three Faculties: Arts, Science and Law; twelve Departments: Indo-Aryan and Bengali, English, Education, History, Arabic and Muslim Studies, Persian and Urdu, Philosophy, economic science and Politics, Physics, Chemistry, arithmetic, and Law; three Dormitories for students: Salimullah Muslim Hall, Dhaka Hall and Jagannath Hall.

The university compete a major role within the Bengali Language Movement, once Bengalis joined along to fight against Urdu being the official language in Bangla Desh. Dhaka University was the most place wherever the movement started with the scholars connection along and complaintive against the Asian nation government. Later infinite students were massacred in wherever the martyr Minar stands these days. once the incident, Bengali was rebuilt as official language.
